Jim Donnell serves as Executive Director of the Meloy Engineering Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program and Professor of Practice in Engineering Academic and Student Affairs at Texas A&M University's College of Engineering. He concurrently directs Engineering Entrepreneurship within the Multidisciplinary Engineering department, leveraging his extensive industry leadership to bridge academic theory with real-world business applications.
His educational foundation includes a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University (1982) and Harvard's Advanced Management Program (2000). This academic grounding underpins his strategic approach to engineering education.
Dr. Donnell's professional focus centers on cultivating entrepreneurial ecosystems within engineering education, with emphasis on multidisciplinary problem-solving and industry partnerships. His work prioritizes translating technical innovation into viable business ventures through curriculum development and mentorship programs.
With deep industry experience as former CEO of major energy corporations, he integrates executive leadership perspectives into academic programming. His operational leadership spans Duke Energy North America, Synenco Energy, and Poseidon Water, providing students with direct exposure to high-stakes business decision-making.
He spearheads the Meloy Engineering Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program from his ZACH 451B office, maintaining active industry engagement through his LinkedIn presence while directing student-focused initiatives in engineering commercialization.
