Jim Cowie is a Research Fellow at Harvard University, affiliated with both the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society and the Harvard Law School's Library Innovation Lab. He is also the founder of the Internet History Initiative, preserving historical datasets documenting the Internet's regional evolution.
Education:

Research Interests focus on Internet measurement and data storytelling, spanning commercial applications (Renesys, DeepMacro) and policy-oriented work with the Internet Society and RIPE NCC. His current efforts emphasize internet history preservation and resilience analysis through technical and geopolitical lenses.
Recent Publications include analyses of geopolitical internet disruptions (2025 Marconi Society report), Baltic Sea cable cuts (2025 RIPE Labs), and methodological challenges in internet performance datasets (2024 Measurement Lab). These works reflect his expertise in network infrastructure, alternative data, and historical data curation.
