معرفی
Douglas Orr is a Lecturer in Plant Biotechnology at the Lancaster Environment Centre since 2022. His research focuses on improving photosynthetic efficiency through Rubisco engineering and cyanobacterial carbon-concentrating mechanisms (CCM), with active collaborations across University of Illinois, Cornell University, University of Edinburgh, and others.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Plant Sciences (2008-2012), Australian National University
- Applied Science Honours (2007), La Trobe University
- Bachelors of Applied Science & Computing (2003-2006), La Trobe University
His work centers on overcoming Rubisco’s inefficiencies in crop productivity. Key projects include integrating cyanobacterial CCM into higher plants and studying Rubisco diversity/regulation under dynamic conditions via the RIPE initiative. Articles highlight advancements in Rubisco mutagenesis, activase isoforms, and algal CCM modeling.
Scientific Awards:
- Society for Experimental Biology/Company of Biologists Travel Grant (2018)
Douglas supervises PhD students (e.g., Anna Gardiner-Piggott, Alvaro Herrera Seller) and supports summer internships. He co-leads the RIPE project and manages the Lancaster Photosynthesis Group website and social media.
