Jillian Detwiler is Associate Professor and Associate Head (Graduate) in Biological Sciences. Her research investigates evolutionary ecology of host-parasite interactions using molecular, behavioral, and ecological approaches. Current projects examine trematode transmission dynamics, parasite-modified behavior, and environmental DNA applications.
Research integrates field sampling with laboratory experiments to study how host ecology shapes parasite evolution. Key models include echinostome trematodes in aquatic snails and parelaphostrongylid nematodes in ungulates. Detwiler develops molecular methods for parasite identification and analyzes chemical signaling in host manipulation. She serves on editorial boards and leads outreach programs in parasitology education.
