Dr. Jillian Stinchcomb is an associate professor at Towson University with appointments across multiple departments including Philosophy and Religious Studies, History, and Jewish Studies through the Baltimore Hebrew Institute.
Dr. Stinchcomb earned her Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. Her academic journey includes significant postdoctoral experiences:
- Florence Levy Kay Fellow in Hebrew Bible and Mediterranean Cross Cultural Textual Antiquities at Brandeis University (2020-2022)
- Postdoctoral fellow in the "Interactive Histories, Co-Produced Communities: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam" project (2022-2024)
Her research focuses on the intersection of biblical studies, Jewish studies, and comparative religion, with particular expertise in tracing the evolution of religious narratives across cultural boundaries. Dr. Stinchcomb specializes in the figure of the Queen of Sheba, examining how this biblical character transformed across different religious traditions from the Bible to the Qur'an and the Ethiopian Kebra Nagast.
Dr. Stinchcomb's scholarly work demonstrates methodological rigor in analyzing religious texts and their historical contexts. Her publications explore how religious figures like the Queen of Sheba became "paradigmatic religious converts, Solomon's wives, and the mothers of significant historical and religious figures" across different traditions.

Dr. Stinchcomb is currently preparing her first book, "The Queen of Sheba between the Bible and the Kebra Nagast," which will provide a comprehensive analysis of the Queen of Sheba narrative's evolution across religious traditions. Her research contributes significantly to understanding how religious narratives are transmitted, transformed, and adapted across cultural and historical contexts.
