Jill Thompson is an Assistant Professor at Mount Royal University (MRU), where she has served as contract faculty since 2017. She holds an MA from Yorkville University, a BA from Rocky Mountain College, and a Diploma from Mount Royal College. Her research focuses on gender, sexuality, occupational stress, and integrating counselling skills into everyday contexts. She specializes in work with the Queer community and has presented at conferences like the Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Conference and Western Canadian Sexual Health Conference. Outside academia, she runs a private practice and actively engages in community initiatives, including leadership roles in the Calgary Dyke and Trans March. She uses pronouns they/them and she/her.
Areas of instruction include Fundamental Skills in Interviewing, Counselling, Group Theory, and Interdisciplinary Professional Practice. Her scholarship explores topics such as consent culture, mental health in vulnerable populations, and the intersection of church culture with sexual education. She advocates for systemic change through community-driven actions.
