Dr. Jill S. Halterman is a distinguished physician-scientist who serves as the Chair of Pediatrics and Physician-in-Chief for Golisano Children's Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is also a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, General Pediatrics, and holds the William H. Eilinger Chair of Pediatrics. Dr. Halterman is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and provides clinical care in the pediatric primary care practice.
Dr. Halterman completed her medical education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine/Dentistry, earning her MD in 1994. She furthered her education with an MPH from the University of Rochester School of Medicine/Dentistry in 2001. Her clinical training includes internships and residencies at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Strong Memorial Hospital/University of Rochester Medical Center from 1994-1998.
Dr. Halterman is a clinical investigator who leads a research program designed to understand the multifactorial contributions driving asthma disparities and to improve care for historically marginalized children with this disease. Her work focuses on developing and implementing community-based interventions to improve asthma care and reduce morbidity, with a particular emphasis on health equity. She has pioneered school-based asthma management programs that have been replicated in numerous communities across the country. Her research integrates clinical care, community partnerships, and policy advocacy to create sustainable systems of asthma care that reach children where they are. She has led multiple large randomized trials in community settings and primary care offices to improve asthma care and reduce morbidity, receiving continuous NIH funding for over twenty years.

Her work spans clinical trials, health services research, and implementation science, with a consistent focus on reducing health disparities and improving outcomes for vulnerable children. Her work integrates clinical research with community engagement to create sustainable interventions that address the complex factors contributing to asthma disparities, including the School-Based Telemedicine Enhanced Asthma Management (SB-TEAM) program and the Telehealth Education for Asthma Connecting Hospital and Home (TEACHH) pilot study.
