Jill P. Crandall

Jill P. Crandall, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Medicine (Endocrinology) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Jacob A. and Jeanne E. Barkey Chair in Medicine. She serves as Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at Montefiore Einstein and directs the Diabetes Clinical Trials Unit. Her clinical focus includes type 1 and type 2 diabetes, metabolic disorders, and cardiovascular risk management in older adults. Dr. Crandall leads major NIH-sponsored trials, including the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcome Study (DPPOS) and the GRADE study, and chairs the Einstein-Sinai Diabetes Center’s Translational Research Core.

Education: SUNY Downstate Medical Center (M.D., 1988), followed by residency and fellowship training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Recognitions include the Glenn Award for Aging Research and the William Dock Master Teacher Award.

Research emphasizes age-related glucose metabolism, diabetes prevention, and cardiovascular complications. Her work explores metformin’s role in aging, testosterone therapy in older men, and lifestyle interventions. Over 150 publications span journals like N Engl J Med, Diabetes Care, and Cell Metabolism.

Grants include NIH funding for clinical trials and collaborations with the National Cancer Institute. She advises on grant panels for the ADA and NIH and serves on editorial boards for Journal of Diabetes and Its Complications and Journal of Gerontology.
