Jill Manoukian serves as an Assistant Professor of English in the Department of English at Andrews University, where she teaches writing pedagogy and rhetoric courses from her office in Nethery Hall 127.
Her academic credentials include:
- BS in Architectural Studies from Andrews University (2003)
- MA in English with TESL emphasis from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (2006)
- PhD in English (Rhetoric & Composition) from Ohio University (2023)
Dr. Manoukian's research examines refugee literacy development through trauma-informed pedagogy frameworks, with additional focus on discourse analysis of metaphors in media, politeness theory applications, and how material environments influence writing practices. Her dissertation investigated resource needs for students from distressed locations in writing classrooms, connecting refugee literacy studies with composition theory.
Prior to her current position, she gained international experience as an instructor at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (UAE), a columnist for a Jordanian newspaper, and a Research & Development officer in Beirut, Lebanon. She maintains active engagement with cross-cultural communication through her proficiency in Shami Arabic and personal interests in photography, culinary arts, and cultural exploration.
