Jill Lepore is the David Woods Kemper ’41 Professor of American History and Professor of Law at Harvard University. She is also a staff writer at The New Yorker and founder of the public archive Amend, which documents proposed amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Her work bridges history, law, and literature, focusing on the interplay between evidence, historical methodology, and constitutionalism.

Lepore’s research emphasizes absences and asymmetries in the historical record, particularly the technologies of evidence and their role in shaping American constitutionalism. She also explores themes of American identity, political history, and the intersection of law with cultural narratives. Her forthcoming book, We the People: A History of the U.S. Constitution (2025), continues this focus.
