Dr. Jill Leonard-Pingel is an Associate Professor at Ohio State University, specializing in invertebrate paleontology and environmental change. She earned her Ph.D. from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD) in 2012. Her research examines how environmental changes shape biological communities across geological and historical timescales, including projects on Neogene mollusks in the Caribbean and conservation paleobiology initiatives tracking reef ecosystems and lake health proxies.
Her work integrates paleontological methods with environmental diagnostics to understand ecosystem responses to natural and anthropogenic disturbances. Research interests span community ecology, biogeochemical cycling, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction using fossil assemblages.
Recent publications demonstrate a focus on diatom-based environmental models, reef ecosystem degradation, and conservation baselines across diverse geographic regions including the Caribbean, North America, and Asia. Collaborative projects involve interdisciplinary teams studying remediation efficacy and ecosystem health diagnostics.
