Jill Dolan is the Annan Professor of English and Professor of Theater in Princeton University's Lewis Center for the Arts. Her roles include leadership as Director of the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies (2009–2015) and Dean of the College (2015–2024). She previously held the Zachary T. Scott Family Chair in Drama at the University of Texas at Austin, leading its MA/MFA/PhD program in performance studies.
Her research focuses on Drama and Performance Studies, Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and LGBTQ Studies. Key works include The Feminist Spectator in Action (2017), Wendy Wasserstein (2017), and Utopia in Performance (2005). She has received prestigious awards such as the 2011 George Jean Nathan Award, 2013 Distinguished Scholar Award, and induction into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2016).
Her teaching spans Contemporary Literature, Film Studies, and Performance Pedagogy, with recognition including the 2011 Outstanding Teaching Award and multiple university-level teaching accolades. She has edited works like A Menopausal Gentleman (2011) and co-authored Memories of the Revolution (2015), both Lambda Literary Award recipients.
Leadership roles include past presidencies of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education and the Women and Theatre Program, as well as former Executive Director of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies (CUNY).
