Jifeng Peng

Jifeng Peng is a Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alaska. He holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering (specialty: fluid mechanics) from the California Institute of Technology (2009), an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University (2004), and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science & Technology of China (2002). His research focuses on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), propulsion systems, renewable energy (wind/hydro), microgrid integration, environmental transport, and fluid-structure interactions, with applications to marine structures and oil spill modeling.

He has secured over $2.2 million in research grants as PI/Co-PI, including projects on Arctic ice condition modeling (DHS, $195K), Arctic oil spill simulations (Co-PI, $100K), and wind farm integration in Alaska (Moore Foundation, $1.3M). His work bridges fluid dynamics theory with engineering applications in energy systems and environmental hazards.

Teaching responsibilities include courses on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, renewable energy systems, and engineering computation. He serves as a reviewer for journals like Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids, and International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow.
