Wolf-Gerrit Fruh is an Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University, affiliated with the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences and the Institute of Mechanical, Process & Energy Engineering. His expertise spans wind energy systems, fluid dynamics, and energy grid integration. He holds a DPhil in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Oxford and a Physics degree from the University of Freiburg.
Research focuses include geophysical turbulence, wind turbine aerodynamics, and renewable energy grid dynamics. Notable projects include high-resolution CFD modeling of offshore wind farms and assessments of Scotland’s long-term wind resource stability. He has advised on small wind turbine design, energy storage systems, and hybrid wind-pumped hydro projects.
Recipient of the 2018 Young Professionals Green Energy Awards (Academic Category), his work addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy and climate action. Current research explores grid resilience with variable renewable energy inputs and novel wind resource assessment techniques.
