Dr. Jie Zheng is a Distinguished Chair in Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). He holds adjunct roles in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Urology at UTSW Medical Center. His research focuses on nanomedicine, particularly renal clearable nanoparticles for early disease detection and therapeutic delivery. Zheng earned a B.S. from Inner Mongolia University (1994) and a Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology (2005), followed by postdoctoral training at Harvard University (2005–2008).
His work bridges nanotechnology and medicine, addressing kidney disease, cancer, and liver damage through innovative nanoparticle applications. Notable achievements include NIH grants ($1.5M for hepatic glutathione monitoring) and CPRIT funding for tumor-targeting nanoparticles. He is an AIMBE Fellow, honored for contributions to nanoparticle transport understanding and nanomedicine development.
Research interests emphasize nanoparticle transport mechanisms, kidney targeting strategies, and noninvasive diagnostic methods. Over 12 graduate students and 25+ undergraduates have been mentored, with many securing academic and industry roles. Zheng teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, fostering next-generation scientists through hands-on research.
