Jie Ren is an academic with a Ph.D. from the Department of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where he specialized in Software Engineering under the guidance of Richard N. Taylor. Prior to UCI, he was a lecturer at Fudan University’s Software Engineering Lab, teaching Advanced Software Engineering courses. Post-Ph.D., he joined Google in Santa Monica. His research focuses on secure software architecture, event-based systems, and component integration, with notable contributions to the Secure xADL language and the Swirl project for usable security visualization. He has also developed tools for ranking research institutions based on publications and explored bridging communication paradigms like procedure calls and message passing.
