Jiayuh Lin

Jiayuh Lin, PhD is a tenured Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and a full member of the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. His career has spanned faculty positions at the University of Michigan (1997–2004), The Ohio State University (2005–2016), and his current appointment since 2016.

Research Focus

Dr. Lin's laboratory investigates the oncogenic roles of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and its downstream effector STAT3 in tumor progression, metastasis, and therapeutic resistance. Using structure-based drug design and drug-repositioning strategies, his team develops small-molecule inhibitors that selectively target IL-6/GP130/STAT3 signaling. Current projects also explore crosstalk between STAT3 and PARP or CDK4/6 pathways to improve cancer therapy.

Funding & Advising

Dr. Lin has served as Principal Investigator on an NIH/NCI R21, a VA Merit Award, and a Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program award. He has mentored >15 graduate students and medical fellows, chaired doctoral committees at the University of Michigan and Ohio State, and continues to advise PhD candidates at the University of Maryland.

He holds senior editorial roles with the International Journal of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, American Journal of Cancer Research, and International Journal of Oncology, and has reviewed grants for NIH, Hong Kong SAR Government, Singapore Ministry of Health, the Swiss Cancer League, and multiple AACR panels.
