Jianxin Sun is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. His research investigates molecular pathways in vascular inflammation and endothelial dysfunction relevant to atherosclerosis and diabetic complications.
His laboratory focuses on two critical areas:
- Vascular Inflammation Mechanisms: Studies on nuclear orphan receptor Nur77 demonstrate its anti-inflammatory role via IkBα upregulation and NF-κB inhibition in endothelial cells, with ongoing murine atherosclerosis models. Concurrently, TNF-α inducible protein 1 (TNFAIP1) research reveals its pro-inflammatory function through TRAFs ubiquitination and NF-κB activation.
- eNOS Regulation: Investigates post-transcriptional control of endothelial nitric oxide synthase, identifying translation elongation factor 1-alpha 1 (eEF1A1) as a key RNA-binding protein stabilizing eNOS mRNA during TNF-α stimulation. Current work includes developing dominant-negative eEF1A1 constructs and cell-permeable peptides for in vivo vascular homeostasis studies.
Methodologies integrate genetic, biochemical, genomic, and proteomic approaches within the Center for Translational Medicine framework.
