Jianli Pan

Dr. Jianli Pan is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science and Technology at George Mason University, having previously held a similar position at the University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL). He earned his PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 2014.

His research focuses on interdisciplinary challenges at the intersection of:

• Internet of Things (IoT)
• Edge/cloud computing systems
• Machine learning applications
• Cybersecurity frameworks
• Blockchain technology

This work addresses real-world problems in smart infrastructure development for factories, homes, communities, and cities.

Significant honors include:

• 2022 INFOCOM Distinguished TPC Member Award
• 2021 Innovator of the Year (UMSL)
• 2020 Inventor of the Year (Metropolitan Saint Louis Bar Association)
• 2018 Junior Faculty of the Year (UMSL)
• Multiple Outstanding Research Awards (UMSL)

He serves on the editorial board of IEEE Communication Magazine and has organized technical sessions for premier conferences including IEEE INFOCOM, ICCCN, and GLOBECOM. His research is funded by NSF, NSA, and NASA.
