Jian Tong is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the School of Economic, Social and Political Sciences. His research focuses on industrial organization, economic growth, and information economics, with expertise in market structure, technological progress, and policy under uncertainty. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the European Economic Review.
Teaching areas include Industrial Organisation (ECON2005/6008) and Microeconomics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Current research explores firm heterogeneity in productivity and market powers, extending Solow residual approaches to account for imperfect competition and strategic firm interactions. Notable recent work includes analyses of market power-income distribution links and oligopoly-oligopsony wage dynamics.
