Jia Lu is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Iowa's College of Engineering and concurrently serves as a Researcher at the Iowa Technology Institute. He joined the university in 2001 and holds active membership in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). His research focuses on advanced mechanics disciplines such as Biomechanics, Continuum mechanics, and Nonlinear Elasticity, with particular emphasis on Mechanics of Soft Tissues and Inverse Problems in Engineering.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics from the University of California-Berkeley (1999), an M.Eng. in Engineering Mechanics from Tsinghua University (1988), and a B.S. in Applied Mechanics from the Beijing Institute of Aeronautics (1985). These qualifications underscore his expertise in mechanics-related fields.
He leads the Biomechanics Lab and contributes to interdisciplinary research through his affiliation with the Iowa Technology Institute. While no specific student advisees or grants are listed, his academic roles suggest involvement in mentoring and research funding activities. His work integrates theoretical and computational approaches to address challenges in soft tissue mechanics and engineering problem-solving techniques.
