Jhessica Reia is a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at McGill University in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies. She previously served as a Project Manager and Lecturer at the Center for Technology and Society at FGV Law School in Brazil, where she focused on research and advocacy in Law, Media & Communication, and Science and Technology Studies. Her work bridges academic research with policy and activism, particularly in access to knowledge and cultural policy.
Reia holds a PhD and MA in Communication Studies from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a BA in Public Policy from the University of São Paulo.
Her research interests include the intersection of law and media, urban communication, and cultural policy. She has conducted studies on the regulation of street performance in Rio de Janeiro and Montreal, which received an honorable mention from the UCF/IAMCR Urban Communication Research Grant in 2016. Her current project at McGill examines conflicts over nightlife and cultural policies in four cities in the Americas: Montreal, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, and New York.
