Jesus Frias

Professor Jesus Frias serves as Academic Leader at Technological University Dublin's Sustainability & Health Research Hub, directing research across three specialized centers: Centre for AMR and One Health Research (CAMROH), Centre for Sustainable Packaging and Bioproducts, and Food Innovation & Health Research Centre. His work bridges food science, public health, and environmental sustainability through extensive collaborations with Teagasc.

His research focuses on critical food safety challenges including microbial risk assessment in horticultural systems, shelf-life modeling of fermented products, and climate change impacts on foodborne pathogens. Key interests span sustainable packaging solutions, irrigation water safety, and antimicrobial resistance monitoring in agricultural environments.

Analysis of recent publications reveals strong emphasis on Listeria monocytogenes dynamics in fresh produce, biomarker development for forensic applications, and zoonotic pathogen prevalence in meat production systems. Research methodologies combine predictive modeling, advanced spectroscopy, and field-based microbial monitoring.

Professor Frias actively supervises doctoral candidates through TU Dublin's Graduate Research School, with nine PhD completions between 2018-2024. Current projects include EU-funded initiatives on climate change mitigation in beef production and skills development for the food sector's 'next normal', supported by multiple research grants.

His leadership extends to teaching MSc Food Safety Management courses (Food Hazards Chemical, Food Processing and Allergen Management) and undergraduate Agri-food Biotechnology, while directing research infrastructure within TU Dublin's food science ecosystem.
