Jessica Sperling Smokoski, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in Medicine at Duke University and an Adjunct Instructor in the Sanford School of Public Policy. She serves as the Lead of the Applied Research, Evaluation, & Engagement area at Duke's Social Science Research Institute (SSRI). Her work bridges collaborative research, program evaluation, and capacity-building across Duke University, Duke Health, and community/non-profit organizations. She earned her B.A. in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the City University of New York.

Her research focuses on healthcare delivery, education, diversity/inequality, and innovation in pilot programming. Key areas include stress reduction in chronic disease management, teacher attrition during the pandemic, music education in low-income communities, and racial disparities in healthcare outcomes.
She has secured grants for projects such as Accessible Mental Health Interventions for Lupus and Dermatomyositis Stress (2025–2030), Reducing Ethnic-Racial Disparities in Cardiac Arrest Survival (2022–2026), and Transforming Pediatric Well-Child Visits for Early Relational Health (2024–2025).
