Dr. Jessica Selinger is an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen’s University, with a cross-appointment in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. She leads the Queen’s University Neuromechanics Lab and is affiliated with the Ingenuity Labs Research Institute and the Centre for Neuroscience Studies. Her research focuses on understanding neuromechanical control of human walking, energy optimization in locomotion, and applications in wearable technologies and rehabilitation. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University’s Mobilize Center.
Her research interests span
- Energetic cost minimization in human movement
- Neural mechanisms of locomotor learning
- Biofeedback for rehabilitation
- Ecological movement analysis via wearable sensors
Key affiliations include:
- Principal Investigator, Queen’s University Neuromechanics Lab
- Affiliate Member, Ingenuity Labs Research Institute
- Member, Queen’s University Centre for Neuroscience Studies
- Member, Human Mobility Research Centre
Teaching includes courses like KNPE 254 (Biomechanical Analysis), KNPE 397 (Neuromechanical Experiments), and KNPE 493 (Neuromechanics of Locomotion). She received the 2021 Canadian Society of Biomechanics David Winter Young Investigator Award for her contributions to biomechanical research.
