Dr. Jessica Hope is a Lecturer in Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews’ School of Geography and Sustainable Development. She leads the ERC-funded 'Roads to Sustainability' project, examining Amazonian infrastructure and environmental politics. Previously, she held roles at the University of Bristol, Cambridge, and UCL. Her research focuses on Political Ecology, challenging human-nature divides and advocating for social-environmental justice. She is Director of Postgraduate Teaching and Programme Director for the Global Sustainable Development Masters. Outside St Andrews, she serves as an Editor at Geoforum and holds several external roles, including Trustee at the Conflict and Environment Observatory.
Education:
- PhD in Global Development (2015), University of Manchester
Research Interests: Political Ecology, Sustainable Development, Latin America, Infrastructure Studies, and Environmental Justice. Her work critiques resource extraction and explores grassroots alternatives in Bolivia and the Amazon.
Awards:

Advising & Grants: Supervises Stacia Carrington. Leads the 5-year ERC project. Previously held a Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellowship at Bristol.
