Professor Jessica Grisham is an academic clinical psychologist and Professor in the School of Psychology at UNSW Sydney. She received her PhD from Boston University in 2005 and relocated to Sydney for a post-doctoral position in Psychiatry. She maintains an active research program focusing on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related spectrum disorders.
Professor Grisham's primary research interests center on the phenomenology and treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and OC spectrum disorders, particularly hoarding disorder. She is internationally recognized as an authority on hoarding disorder, with extensive clinical experience in assessing and treating OCD and hoarding clients. Her research employs various methodologies including experimental studies, clinical trials, and natural language processing to examine the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects of these disorders. A significant portion of her recent work explores the application of mental imagery techniques in treating OCD and hoarding disorder, examining how imagery rescripting can facilitate therapeutic change.
Analysis of Professor Grisham's recent publications reveals a strong focus on innovative treatment approaches for OCD and hoarding disorder, with particular emphasis on mental imagery techniques. Her work spans multiple domains including cognitive processes (memory, imagery), emotional regulation, interpersonal factors (loneliness, family dynamics), and implementation science to improve clinical practice. She has made significant contributions to understanding the mechanisms underlying hoarding behaviors and developing targeted interventions.
Professor Grisham has authored numerous book chapters including 'Treatment of Hoarding Disorder' in the Oxford Handbook of Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders and 'Cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety' in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Psychology.
She actively supervises students and collaborates with researchers across various institutions, contributing to both clinical research and the training of future psychologists. Her work demonstrates strong translational value, bridging research findings to clinical applications. Professor Grisham also contributes to the development of clinical resources, including directories to help individuals with OCD find appropriate treatment.
