Jessica Gasson

Jessica Gasson is a PhD candidate and Associate Lecturer at The Courtauld Institute of Art, specializing in fifteenth-century European tapestry and liturgical textiles. Her doctoral research examines tapestry altarpieces, focusing on the technical, theological, and artistic dimensions of these objects within their historical contexts.

She has presented research at international conferences including the CIHA Congress in Lyon and the II Encuentro de Arte y Liturgia in Cádiz. Her conference papers explore the design and production of tapestries used in religious settings, with particular attention to materials, techniques, and viewer engagement.

Gasson has received specialized training in historical textile techniques through programs at the Fondazione Arte Della Seta Lisio and West Dean College. Her methodological approach combines technical art history with theological studies to reconstruct the cultural significance of these often fragmentary artifacts.

She has taught as Associate Lecturer for the BA1 'Sensory Encounters with Dress and Textiles' course and served as Teaching Coordinator for the Foundations BA1 course at The Courtauld, developing pedagogical approaches to material culture studies.
