Jessica Elkind is an Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of History at San Francisco State University. Her research focuses on U.S. foreign relations, Southeast Asian history, nation-building, and the intersections of religion and human rights in foreign policy. She holds a Ph.D. from UCLA (2005) and a B.A. from Brown University (1998).

Her book Aid Under Fire: Nation Building and the Vietnam War (2016) examines American nation-building failures in South Vietnam. Current research includes U.S. policy toward Cambodia in the 1970s and the influence of religion on U.S. foreign relations. Her publications span diplomatic history, refugee resettlement, and Cold War dynamics.
