Jessica Cooperman is an Associate Professor of Religion Studies and Director of the Jewish Studies Program at Muhlenberg College. Her work focuses on modern Jewish history, American religious pluralism, and the intersection of state power with religious communities. She holds a joint Ph.D. in History and Judaic Studies from New York University.
Her research explores military history, particularly the role of World War I military camps in shaping religious pluralism and Americanization efforts. Notable publications include her 2018 monograph on religious pluralism’s origins during World War I. Cooperman has held fellowships at the Center for Jewish History, Fordham University, and the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Her academic contributions highlight themes of religious identity negotiation, interfaith dynamics, and the impact of state policies on minority communities.
