Dr. Jessica Church-Lang is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Texas at Austin, within the College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Washington University in St. Louis and completed postdoctoral training at UC Berkeley and Washington University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on developmental cognitive neuroscience, examining how brain networks and cognitive control processes evolve during childhood and adolescence, with a particular emphasis on neuroimaging methods (fMRI), eye-tracking, and behavioral assessments. Key interests include the neurobiological underpinnings of reading difficulties, ADHD, and the impact of environmental factors on brain development.
Her lab, the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Lab, investigates topics such as the 'summer slide' phenomenon (educational interruption effects) and integrates family perspectives into studies of child well-being and academic achievement. She teaches online courses like Introduction to Developmental Psychology (PSY 333D) across multiple semesters, including Spring 2025, 2024, and earlier terms.
Research projects emphasize longitudinal studies of struggling readers, English language learners, and youth with ADHD, using multimodal approaches to track developmental trajectories. Collaborations with families provide rich datasets linking neural, cognitive, and environmental factors to academic outcomes.
