Dr. Jesse N. Popp is the Chair in Indigenous Environmental Science and Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph. As a member of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, her work integrates Indigenous and Western scientific approaches to advance environmental and ecological science. Her research focuses on wildlife population dynamics, biodiversity preservation, and reconciliation through transdisciplinary methods like 'two-eyed seeing.' She leads the Wildlife, Indigenous Science, Ecology (WISE) Lab, fostering critical thinking and skill development in areas such as ecological fieldwork and spatial analysis.
Academic History: BSc, MSc, PhD from Laurentian University.
Research Interests: Community-based biodiversity monitoring, large mammal ecology, railway ecology, and Indigenous methodologies. The WISE Lab collaborates with Indigenous nations, governments, and conservation organizations to co-design research addressing ecological and cultural integrity. Opportunities exist for students across postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate levels through the M.Sc. in Environmental Science program.
