Dr. Faisal Moola is an Associate Professor at the University of Guelph in the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics, part of the College of Social & Applied Human Sciences. He serves as Program Coordinator for the Master of Conservation Leadership. His work focuses on Indigenous-led conservation, ecology, and environmental policy, collaborating closely with First Nations communities such as the Dunne-za, Cree Treaty 8, and Grassy Narrows to defend Indigenous lands and Treaty Rights.
Research Interests:
- Indigenous-led conservation and biodiversity protection
- Ethnoecology, plant ecology, and forest management
- Environmental policy and urban green space advocacy
- Biocultural stewardship and cultural keystone species
Advising & Grants: Supervises graduate students in the People, Plants and Policy (3P) Lab, focusing on interdisciplinary conservation policy, forest management, and ethnobotany with Indigenous partnerships. His students explore topics like biocultural diversity, Indigenous governance, and climate adaptation.
Labs/Teams: The 3P Lab emphasizes transdisciplinary research and collaboration with Indigenous communities to address conservation challenges through policy and practice.
