Associate Professor Jesse C. Vermaire is affiliated with the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Carleton University, within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His research focuses on human impacts on freshwater ecosystems, long-term ecological change, and ecosystem resilience. He holds degrees from the University of Guelph (B.Sc.), the University of New Brunswick (M.Sc.), and McGill University (Ph.D.).
His research employs lake surveys, paleolimnological techniques, and long-term datasets to study climate warming, nutrient enrichment, regime shifts, and extreme environmental events' effects on aquatic systems. Key areas include aquatic ecology, limnology, and climate change impacts.
Publications highlight expertise in paleoecological records, microplastic pollution, and environmental policy. He teaches GEOG 3106 (Aquatic Science and Management). No scientific awards or student advisees are listed, though his work emphasizes interdisciplinary environmental conservation and transdisciplinary research approaches.
His lab's work integrates spatial and temporal scales, addressing challenges like eutrophication and watershed conservation. Contact: jesse.vermaire@carleton.ca or Herzberg Bldg 4439.
