Jesse C. Stewart

Jesse C. Stewart is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Psychology at Indiana University's School of Science. He also serves as an Affiliated Scientist at the IU Center for Aging Research and Regenstrief Institute, and a Member of the IU Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases. His primary research focuses on identifying psychosocial risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases and developing prevention strategies through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Research Interests: Dr. Stewart’s work integrates epidemiology, mechanistic studies, and intervention research to address cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, HIV, cognitive decline, and Alzheimer’s. Key areas include systemic inflammation, autonomic dysfunction, and behavioral factors like depression, insomnia, and health disparities. He employs digital health and cognitive-behavioral approaches for prevention.

Advising & Mentoring: Dr. Stewart has graduated 9 PhD students, many of whom became independent researchers. He currently mentors 6 active PhD students, all contributing to high-impact publications. Collaborations span physicians, biologists, epidemiologists, and healthcare organizations.

Labs & Teams: The CBM Lab (https://www.cbmlab.org/) focuses on translating research into clinical practices. Ongoing studies involve biobehavioral trials, stepped care models, and health disparities mitigation.
