Jesper Halle is a Professor of Stage Writing/Dramatic Writing at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, affiliated with the Norwegian Theatre Academy's Master's program since 2013. His work spans academic research, mentorship, and creative output in theatre, puppetry, radio, and television.
Education: Studied philosophy and literature at the University of Tromsø, and Norwegian studies at the University of Oslo. Born and raised in Oslo, he has been a resident playwright since 1983, producing over 30 dramatic works.
Research focuses on playwriting techniques, polyvocality, classical dramaturgy, and contemporary theatre practices. His articles explore challenges in new drama development, institutional theatre histories, and emotional narratives.
Advising and mentorship: Has guided playwrights at Det Åpne Teater and regional theaters, including Agder Teater, Rogaland Teater, and Sogn og Fjordane Teater. Taught dramatic writing at Bø's author's study program. Holds trust positions and jury roles in the Norwegian theatre sector.
Performance involvement: Active in puppet theatre, radio theatre, and TV writing. His works blend classical techniques with modern themes, emphasizing cross-media storytelling and audience engagement.
