Jesko Fezer is a Professor of Experimental Design at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts (HFBK Hamburg) since 2011. His work spans architecture, urban design, and critical theory, collaborating with institutions like ifau (Institute for Applied Urban Science) on projects in Munich, Graz, Utrecht, and beyond. Previously, he held roles including visiting professor at Nuremberg’s Academy of Fine Arts and director of the 'Civic City' research project at Zurich University of the Arts. Fezer’s research focuses on post-war design history, participatory methods, and the politics of urban planning. He is a member of the German Society for Design Theory and Research (DGTF) and the Hamburg Art Commission.
His research interests include design methodologies, process-oriented approaches, and the intersection of design with socio-political dynamics. Key collaborations include co-founding the Kooperative für Darstellungspolitik research studio and editing the political architecture journal An Architektur. His publications address critiques of neoliberal urbanism, historical design movements, and visual discourses in planning.
Fezer’s academic contributions bridge theory and practice, emphasizing interdisciplinary engagement with urban challenges. His work often explores how design can foster democratic participation and rethink post-neoliberal urban futures.
