Jerzy Kochanowski

Jerzy Kochanowski (b. 1960) is a Professor at the Faculty of Culture and Arts at the University of Warsaw. He holds academic ranks including full professor (since 2012) and has held visiting positions at institutions such as Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. His research focuses on 20th-century Polish and East European social/cultural history, WWII, Polish-German relations, visual history, and survival strategies under occupation.

Educated at the University of Warsaw (MA 1984, PhD 1991, habilitation 2001), he previously worked at the Institute of History (until 2020) and collaborated with museums like the Wielkopolska Museum of Independence. His research projects include analyzing survival strategies during WWII and the dynamics of Polish society in occupied territories.

Key research interests encompass black markets, state citizenship policies, and marginalized populations' experiences.
