Jerry Tabor is a Professor of Music at Salisbury University, where he has coordinated the theory and composition and jazz programs since 1997. His research focuses on composition theory, pedagogy, jazz, and experimental composition, particularly using graphic notational systems. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) and Master of Music (MM) from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a Bachelor of Music (BM) from the University of New Mexico.
As a researcher, Tabor authored Otto Laske: Navigating New Musical Horizons (1999) and co-authored the introduction to Essays on the Music and Theoretical Writings of Thomas DeLio (2008). He has contributed essays to the Computer Music Journal and wrote the Instructor Manual for the Jazz: The First 100 Years textbook. His music has been featured at international festivals and conferences, such as the John Donald Robb International Composers Symposium and the International Computer Music Conference.
Tabor’s work extends beyond academia through his role as former executive producer of Neuma Records, an independent label he expanded to include a publishing house. He also serves as a recognized editor of musical scores and books. As a jazz guitarist, he is reviving his performance career after a 30-year hiatus, focusing on solo and ensemble works.
