Jerrod Windham serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Industrial and Graphic Design within Auburn University's College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC). With both a Bachelor of Industrial Design and Master of Industrial Design from Auburn University, he brings deep institutional knowledge to his teaching and research.
His research focuses on Sustainable Design Strategies, Assistive Technology Design, and Digital Fabrication, with recent work exploring how generative AI is transforming traditional design methodologies. His influential "Double Diamond to Argyle" framework reconceptualizes design processes in the age of AI, arguing that generative tools create multiple micro-cycles of exploration within each design phase rather than simple divergent-convergent patterns.
Professor Windham teaches the Foundations sequence and has developed innovative approaches integrating AI tools into design education, including a custom GPT for visualizing 3D forms. He's actively involved in departmental initiatives including the Kaleidoscope: Auburn Design Show, which has grown to attract over 850 attendees including students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners.
His scholarly output demonstrates consistent exploration at the intersection of traditional design principles and emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on how AI can enhance (rather than replace) designer creativity. His work spans theoretical frameworks, practical applications in furniture design (including revisiting his "Hug" chair concept with aerospace-inspired elements), and hands-on digital fabrication projects.
