Jerritt Frank is an Associate Professor of History and Academic Director of the MU Freshmen Interest Group (FIG) program at the University of Missouri’s College of Arts and Science. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. His research focuses on environmental history, the American West, and Indigenous history, with a current project examining water policy and recreational ecology. Frank has received the Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching Award and was nominated for the President's Award for Excellence. He has held leadership roles including Executive Director of the Mizzou Advantage and Director of the Colorado Water Workshop, raising over $150,000 in grants during his tenure. Frank’s teaching innovations include field-based courses like “Acts of God: An Environmental History of Natural Disasters.”

Research Interests: Frank’s work explores the intersections of environmental policy, Indigenous histories, and Western landscapes. His first book analyzed Rocky Mountain National Park’s ecological and tourism impacts, while his current project investigates water use in the American West through legal, economic, and cultural lenses. He emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, having co-founded the Center for Environment and Sustainability at Western State Colorado University.
Leadership & Impact: As FIG Academic Director, Frank expanded the program by 20%, achieving a 91% freshman retention rate. The Mizzou Advantage under his leadership secured $42M in gifts/grants and published 350+ scholarly articles. His Colorado Water Workshop revitalization included a 50% reduction in overhead and doubled conference attendance.
