Jerome Schultz is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Houston. His research focuses on Biosensors, Membrane Transport, and Diffusion in Biological Systems, with particular emphasis on glucose monitoring systems and MEMS technology.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry with minor in Chemical Engineering from University of Wisconsin
- M.S. and B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University
Professor Schultz's research explores Biosensors for continuous glucose monitoring, Membrane Transport mechanisms including facilitated diffusion, and Pharmacokinetics. His lab develops MEMS-based affinity sensors using biocompatible polymers and viscometric technologies. The publications list reveals a long-standing focus on Bioimaging techniques through muon spin relaxation studies.
Key scientific awards include:
- Fellow of American Chemical Society (2013)
- Named among 100 Chemical Engineers of the Modern Era (2008)
- Marvin J. Johnson Biotechnology Award (2000)
- NIH Research Career Development Award (1970-1975)
He teaches Capstone Design II and Graduate Bioengineering Seminar, and his laboratory is located at the Science & Engineering Research Center (SERC) at the University of Houston.
