Jerome Reed is the Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Piano at Lipscomb University and an inaugural member of the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame. He chairs the music division of the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts and serves as a faculty member at international festivals including InterHarmony Music Festival in Italy and East/West International Piano Festival in China.
His educational credentials include:
- D.M.A. in Piano Performance from The Catholic University of America
- M.M. in Piano Performance from The Catholic University of America
- Studies with Jeanne-Marie Darré at Conservatoire de Musique de Nice
- Coaching with Yvonne Loriod in Paris
Professor Reed specializes in piano performance and pedagogy with deep expertise in contemporary classical repertoire. His scholarly work encompasses multimedia interpretations of Charles Ives’s Concord Sonata, chamber music collaborations (including flute-piano sonatas with Deanna Little), and recordings of Elizabeth Austin’s Rose Sonata. He actively champions new music through piano-tape compositions for Capstone Records.
His distinguished honors include:

- Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at Lipscomb University (2024)

As a mentor, Professor Reed has guided students to victories in the Nashville International Piano Competition and Tennessee Music Teachers Association events, with his piano trio securing third place at the 2012 Music Teachers National Association Competition in New York. He regularly adjudicates competitions across local, state, and national levels while maintaining an international performance schedule spanning 15+ countries including recent recitals in Asia and Europe.
