Jerome De Groot

Jerome De Groot is Professor of Literature and Culture at the University of Manchester, where he directs the NWC Doctoral Training Partnership. His scholarship bridges literary studies and public history, examining how societies engage with the past through novels, films, games, and genetic genealogy.

Research focuses on three areas: historical fiction (analyzing works by Hilary Mantel, Sarah Waters), 17th-century literature (Royalist identities during the English Civil War), and the ethics of historical representation in digital culture. His books include Consuming History, Remaking History, and Double Helix History, which explores DNA's impact on historical understanding.
