معرفی
Jernej Ule is a Professor of Molecular Neuroscience at University College London (UCL) and heads the Laboratory of RNA Regulatory Networks at both the Francis Crick Institute (London, UK) and the National Institute of Chemistry (Ljubljana, Slovenia). His research focuses on RNA biology, splicing mechanisms, and their roles in neurobiology and disease.
- Current Positions: Professor at UCL (75% employment since 2013), Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute (secondment from UCL since 2016), Head of Laboratory at NIC (25% employment since 2020)
- Past Roles: Group Leader at MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (2006–2013), Postdoctoral Fellow at Rockefeller University (2005–2006)
Education:
- PhD in Molecular Neuroscience, Rockefeller University (2001–2004)
- BS from University of Ljubljana (1995–1999)
Research Interests: Ule's work combines bioinformatics and molecular biology to study RNA regulatory networks, particularly the interactions between proteins and RNA, splicing dynamics, and their implications in neurobiology. He has pioneered techniques like iCLIP and hiCLIP to map RNA binding proteins at nucleotide resolution.
Publications: His research spans RNA splicing, secondary structures, Alu-exon regulation, and glial cell aging, with key contributions in Cell, Nature, and Nature Structural & Molecular Biology.
Scientific Awards:
- EMBO Membership (2016)
- RNA Society Mid-Career Award (2020)
- ERC Starting Grant (2008), Consolidator Grant (2013), Advanced Grant (2019)
Service & Contributions: He serves on the editorial board of Genome Biology, reviews for Wellcome Trust and EMBO, and has refereed over 155 manuscripts. He also evaluates grants for major research councils and foundations.
