Jermaine Toney

Jermaine Toney, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. His research focuses on finance, family, health, and the distribution of socio-economic indicators such as wealth, income, and education. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Economics from The New School for Social Research, an M.S. in Urban Policy Analysis from The New School, and a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Peace/Justice Studies from the University of St. Thomas.

Dr. Toney has received notable awards including the 2023-2024 NBER Fellowship on Racial and Ethnic Disparities, Russell Sage Foundation Early Career Award, and NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship. His work bridges applied microeconomics with issues of racial and socioeconomic inequality, particularly examining generational wealth transmission and racial wealth gaps. He previously taught at Queens College, CUNY.
