Dr. Jeremy Mills serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University and concurrently holds the role of Manager, Institutional Mental Health for the Ontario Region of the Correctional Service of Canada. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from Carleton University in 2000.
His research focuses on risk assessment methodologies, suicide prevention in correctional settings, criminal attitudes, and the psychological well-being of incarcerated individuals. Key areas include developing and validating assessment tools for recidivism prediction, evaluating mental health programs for justice-involved populations, and addressing challenges in correctional environments like restrictive housing.
Dr. Mills has contributed extensively to understanding dynamic risk factors in offender populations through over 40 peer-reviewed articles. His work emphasizes practical interventions to improve inmate outcomes and reduce institutional risks. Notable contributions include the Measures of Criminal Attitudes and Associates (MCAA) and the Two-Tiered Violence Risk Estimates (TTV) frameworks.
He collaborates closely with correctional institutions to implement evidence-based strategies, such as the 'Stepping Up, Stepping Out' mental health program for inmates in restrictive housing. His research bridges academic psychology and real-world correctional practice, emphasizing translational outcomes.
