Jeremy Isaacs

Dr Jeremy Isaacs serves as Consultant Neurologist at St George's and Kingston Hospitals and National Clinical Director for Dementia and Older People's Mental Health at NHS England. He holds the academic position of Honorary Reader in Neurology at City St George's, University of London, where he directs the Neurosciences Clinical Academic Group and co-leads the MSc in Clinical Neuroscience Practice.

His medical training spanned Cambridge and UCL, followed by postgraduate research at KCL Institute of Psychiatry and UCL Institute of Neurology. He completed his PhD on Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease immunology, establishing his neuroscience research foundation.

Dr Isaacs specializes in cognitive neurology with deep expertise in dementia subtypes, particularly Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and functional cognitive disorders. His work focuses on diagnostic innovation—including biomarker integration and functional disorder differentiation—and system-level improvements through the London Memory Service Network. He actively addresses health disparities in dementia diagnosis across ethnic, rural, and socioeconomic groups.

His publication trends reveal three interconnected research streams: advancing Alzheimer's biological definitions and disease-modifying therapies, developing diagnostic tools for functional cognitive disorders, and implementing vascular cognitive impairment interventions. These areas consistently emphasize clinical translation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and healthcare system optimization.

His scientific recognition includes:

As co-investigator, he secured over £1 million in research funding from Alzheimer's Research UK, Alzheimer's Society, and British Heart Foundation. His leadership extends to national guideline committees—serving on NICE dementia guidelines and chairing self-harm guidelines—while directing NHS England's dementia clinical networks and producing pathway redesign frameworks.

He leads St George's multi-disciplinary Cognitive Neurology service for cognitive disorders including young-onset dementias, and directs City St George's Neurosciences Clinical Academic Group which integrates clinical care, research, and postgraduate education through the MSc program.
