Jeremy Hansen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Security and Information Assurance at Norwich University’s Senator Patrick Leahy School of Cybersecurity and Advanced Computing. He also serves as the E-Sports Coach, integrating his expertise in technology with leadership in digital sports.
- Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2009), with a dissertation on cryptographic hash algorithms.
Hansen’s research examines the intersection of technology and society, emphasizing privacy, computational social choice, security of implantable medical devices, and elections security. His work addresses ethical and political dimensions of cybersecurity, bridging technical and social sciences.
He has taught nearly every computer science course at Norwich but focuses on Data Structures, Software Engineering, and Network Security. Since 2017, Hansen has led a May term study abroad program in Berlin, Germany, analyzing historical and political contexts of privacy and surveillance.
Over his career, he has mentored undergraduates through 13 summer research fellowships, 14 capstone projects, and three honors theses. Beyond academia, he contributes to local governance as a member of Berlin, Vermont’s Select Board and the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department’s Board of Directors. His personal interests include martial arts, cooking, brewing, music, and family time.
