He investigates parallels between experiences of historic and natural environments, advocating for a people-centered approach to conservation. His work integrates social science methodologies such as ethnography, survey research, and phenomenology to understand community values in heritage contexts.
Dr. Wells' recent and notable publications explore themes of authenticity, cultural truth, and value systems in preservation, including comparative studies between historic districts and new urbanist developments. His research trajectory shows a strong emphasis on critical heritage studies, community participation, and the philosophical underpinnings of conservation practice.
